With the sole purpose of brotherhood in golf, the COFS, a men's golf league, was formed in 1999 by a small group at Chowan Golf and Country Club. There are currently 40 members who range in age from 55-89 who play every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
All newcomers are welcome to join as a visitor or to subsequently become a COFS member. On golf days, members meet at 8:00am to draw balls to form teams, and tee off around 8:20am (an hour later in the winter months). Golfers do not have to call to participate; just show up on time and put your ball in the basket. Handicaps are used in all COFS play to in- sure all golfers are competing on an equal basis. Handicaps in the group range from 13 to 30+.
The COFS offer an optional benefit for members wishing to participate. For $10 monthly, members can be included in several summer golf road trips.
The Gangsome, the oldest established group of golfers at CGCC, is a group of the Club's more serious golfers who enjoy playing competitive golf. Handicaps range from zero to the upper teens or twenties. There is no membership cost, but there is a $10 fee per round.
The Gangsome tees off Wednesdays and Fridays at noon, and Saturdays and Sundays at 10:00am (11:00am during daylight savings time). Tee times infrequently may be subject to change. Golfers interested in playing with the Gangsome should call the Pro Shop no later than thirty minutes before tee times to sign up for that day's competition.
The men golfers at CGCC are welcomed to participate in Men's Night the first and third Thursdays of each month. $15 per member and $22 per guest will buy nine holes of golf (to include cart) and dinner sides (baked potato, salad, and a roll).
Each golfer brings a preferred meat to be cooked on the Club's grill. Of course, the bar will be open. Golfers must call the Pro Shop by 3:00pm the day of the event; tee time will be 5:00 pm.
For more information, call the Pro Shop (482-3606).

The Ladies of Chowan Golf and Country Club is comprised of members of all ages who are interested in the social, sports, and "improvement" events of the club. They meet monthly on the third Thursday from September through May. Ladies are welcome to participate in the morning activity of their choice: tennis, golf, bridge or board games. The activities are followed by a luncheon and business meeting held in the club's Ballroom. Four officers are elected every year (President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer) to plan the programs for each meeting.
The ladies volunteer individually and as a group to assist in the activities and endeavors of the club. For instance, we have a group of "weeders" who tend to the decorative beds around the Clubhouse during the growing season. In November, we usually dedicate our monthly meeting to trimming the Christmas trees and creating a festive atmosphere throughout the Ballroom, Snack Bar and Pro Shop. The annual Fashion Show is always a success, thanks to the committee that plans the ticket sales, raffle, food, decorations, and clothing to be modeled.
Historically, this group has made significant financial contributions to the Club and to local organizations, e.g. the Food Pantry and Smart Start programs. Most recently, funds were approved to purchase updated accessories in the Club's entryway, a new refrigerator for the kitchen, replacement linens for the Ballroom, and new plantings around the pool and clubhouse.
The aim of this group is to promote the objectives of the club while enjoying participation in the various sporting, social and volunteer activities.
Chowan's lady golfers are called the "Chowan Chix". There are no fees for participation; there is an open invitation for lady golfers of all skill levels to golf with the Chix. Play days are Tuesdays and Thursdays; ladies should arrive at 8:30am, teams will be set up at 8:45am, and golf will begin at 9:00am. (Winter times are one hour later.)
All lady golfers are welcome to participate in Ladies Night the first and third Wednesdays of each month. Teams are randomly formed to tee off at 5:00pm for nine holes of superball play. The cost is only $10 ($8 for the cart and $2 for the prize). Each golfer brings a meat to cook on the Club's grill after golf; salads and desserts are donated by volunteers.
Call the Pro Shop by noon the day of play to add your name to the list of golfers. For fun, food, and golf, come out for Ladies Night.
Dating back to the 1960's, the RLGA is a ladies' golf league that has eight member clubs from the towns/cities of Ahoskie, Edenton, Elizabeth City, Plymouth, Robersonville, Tarboro, Williamston, and Windsor. Annis Murphy is Chairman for Chowan's RLGA golfers.
The RLGA's season is comprised of eight golf rounds, four played in the fall beginning in September, and four played in the spring beginning in April. Golfers are flighted and paired using handicaps or average scores. The play days are rotated among the clubs with one club hosting the season-ending tournament and luncheon in May. At least four play days are required for tournament participation.
RLGA costs are minimal: a $10 one-time entry fee, cart fees at the host club, plus $2 for prize on each play day. Also, there is a $10 fee for the final tournament/luncheon. All ladies with an interest in joining the RLGA should contact the Pro Shop.
The Metro Golf League, comprised of teams representing golf courses in Tidewater, Virginia and northeastern North Carolina, is open to lady golfers with handicaps of 35 or less. The Metro golfers from CGCC travel each month to different courses, each outing having a different golf format. At the end of the year, prize money is distributed.

We recognize that today's youth are tomorrow's new members at Chowan Golf and Country Club, so we welcome children in the pool, on the courts and on the golf course.
CGCC collaborates with the Edenton/Chowan Parks and Recreation Department and local golf professionals to offer junior clinics throughout the Spring and Summer months. These clinics introduce both basic instruction and golf etiquette to our future golfers. Individual golf lessons can be arranged directly with golf professionals. The Pro Shop maintains a listing of available instructors in the area. The annual Junior/Senior Golf Tournament, scheduled at the end of the season, encourages the children to apply their newly learned skills .
CGCC is the home course for the John A. Holmes High School golf team and also hosts competition among local schools.
The Albemarle Sound is one of northeast North Carolina's greatest assets, and water safety is an essential skill for all children to master. Swimming lessons are offered at the CGCC pool for all levels of swimmers - for children with no water skills to those who wish to strengthen their technique and stamina. Sessions are offered through the Edenton/Chowan Parks and Recreation Department or private swimming lessons can be arranged directly with swimming instructors.
Life guards or pool monitors are not provided at the CGCC pool. As a result, children 13 years of age and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times when using the pool. Children over 13 may swim unattended only after parents have signed a waiver releasing CGCC from responsibility for monitoring the safety of their child.
Guests may accompany a member to the pool for $5.00, but guests are limited to two visits per month. Private pool parties can be scheduled to celebrate special occasions like birthdays, graduation or a winning season for a team. Contact the Pro Shop for more information.
Through its ongoing collaboration with the Edenton/Chowan Parks and Recreation Department, tennis clinics may be offered during the summer for players at various levels. Members, children and their guests are encouraged to use the courts. There is no charge to guests who accompany members.
Prior to using the pool or tennis courts, members and their guests are required to sign in at the Pro Shop.
